What a Whirlwind!

Back from our trip to Germany and Ireland, we have a classic cover song, new and past song picks, and first impressions of our travels.

We returned on Tuesday evening from our trip to Germany and Ireland. As expected, it was a whirlwind. We are used to short, intense trips home, but we had never packed so much action into 10 days.

Neither of us has ever been on tour, but we now better understand what musicians go through when they perform on a different stage every night. Many artists love touring, and so did we. It was lovely to catch up with friends and family, but at some point memories start to blur. What did we do the night before again?

In the swirl of events, it is also hard to be creative or even to sit down and process what just happened. So kudos to the musicians who manage to write new songs while touring – I would love to have the ability to focus that strongly and shut out the world for a while.

Cover Song of the Week: St. Katherine’s Child - Fly Me To The Moon

“Fly Me To The Moon,” written in 1954 by Bart Howard, predates the concept of a cover song because all songs were intended to be performed by as many artists as possible. The best-known version is probably Frank Sinatra’s from 1964, which was played in space during the Apollo 10 and 11 missions.

Aside from that, the song is a beautiful and atmospheric love song, and the UK singer-songwriter St. Katherine’s Child, aka Ilana Zsigmond, proves that it does not lose its magic even with a contemporary arrangement.

Nine Photos from Ten Days on the Move

From Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, with a night spent with friends in Benediktbeuern, back to Munich, on to Himmelkron for a big family gathering and later a memorable evening in Würzburg with our cousins from Hamburg, before continuing north to Hamburg and catching our flight to Dublin, our recent trip packed a lot into ten days. Here are a few snapshots from the journey—just a few memorable moments along the way, with many more to keep and a few more still to share.
