Pool Girl - Call It What You Want

Pool Girl, the project of Los Angeles songwriter Allie Nixon, caught our attention before with “I Liked It,” and returns with another beautifully understated track in “Call It What You Want.” The song moves with an easy, sun-soaked confidence, blending laid-back coastal guitars, soft harmonies, and a dreamy indie-pop glow that never tries too hard to pull you in.

While there’s a lightness running through the track, there’s also something quietly reflective underneath it all — the feeling of learning to trust yourself again after uncertainty and loss. Nixon captures that emotional in-between with remarkable subtlety, letting the song drift naturally instead of forcing big moments.

Pool Girl says:

“To me, this single really marks a new beginning in my musical journey. I think for a while, some of the music I’ve been writing has felt moodier and a little more heavy, mostly because of the season of life I’ve been in - a lot of uncertainty and loss and figuring out how to let something and someone go. This new chapter feels a little lighter and with much more direction. 'Call It What You Want’ is about someone being afraid to admit their deeper feelings. When something is flowing and moving, it can be really scary to allow yourself to let go of all the “what ifs” and simply be open to the idea of falling in love again.”

“Call It What You Want” feels like a warm breeze at the end of a long day — relaxed, wistful, and quietly hopeful.
