THAO - Take It Easy

Following its own winding path, THAO’s “Take It Easy” pulls us along with musical confidence and a vulnerable story of forgiveness.

“Take It Easy” swirls and takes its curves with the confidence of a musician who knows exactly where she’s going. THAO leaves room for the unexpected, following her instincts through a song that resists settling into a familiar rock or pop shape. A thread runs through it all, though, keeping those wayward turns connected and pulling us along.

That musical assurance carries a more vulnerable story. THAO explains:

“It’s written in the voice of a person I used to be married to. It’s me asking for forgiveness — from her and myself.”

The shift in perspective gives “Take It Easy” an emotional complexity that suits its restless movement. Back in June, Oliver described her single “Fossils” as “a joyful reminder that choosing connection over self-protection is worth the risk.” Here, that willingness to open up takes another form: trying to understand someone else while reckoning with yourself.

“Take It Easy” appears on Show Me, THAO’s first album in six years, out October 30 via Kill Rock Stars.
