Song Pick of the Day: My Fellow Sponges - Air

Here’s a beautiful song by the Irish six-piece My Fellow Sponges. They use an array of acoustic instruments and top it off with some electronics. I’ve never really been to Ireland, but I can imagine that it’s the perfect soundtrack for driving around there – our Song

Oliver’s Top Ten Albums 2015

It is time again to present my top ten favorite albums. In 2015, like in previous years, there was again much more good music that fits into a single list and looking at the selections of fellow blogs confirms it: what is the number one on one list sometimes doesn’

Song Pick of the Day: Cameron A G - Lost Direction

When I listened to Lost Direction for the very first time, a little over a month ago, I put it on hold with a note “for the quieter season”. By now, I’d say we’re in the middle of it and as usual it’s anything but “quiet” but

3 Is A band: HÆLOS

Whenever an artist is using special characters in their name, they automatically get more attention and this is no different with HÆLOS – I was instantly intrigued! Luckily, this London three-piece can back up their name choice with some excellent trip-hop inspired, electro-pop. Their music is dark and

Song Pick of the Day: Tangerines - Skin Dives

What a nonchalant and laid-back little gem Skin Dives by the London quartet Tangerines is. Oh the guitars! The GUITARS! And then on top the lazy, gnarly vocals… A sure-fire Song Pick of the Day, especially now during the holiday season: Skin Dives clears your ears from too

No Words: ZYXZ - Toll2

Here’s an industrial track by a London producer who goes by the name ZYXZ. Is not easy listening, but I like how noise comes together to create melody and rhythm: it reminds me on the Australian industrial punk pioneers SPK.

Song Pick of the Day: Rachel Thomasin - Reveries

Today’s Song Pick of the Day is from Boston singer/songwriter Rachel Thomasin’s debut album Constellations. She does generally upbeat electropop with an edge – Imogen Heap comes to mind. I like the second track Reveries, which features a cool bass line, which comes to surface in unexpected moments.

Song Pick of the Day: Escapists - Pyramid Scheme

It’s almost impossible to not fall for the allure of Pyramid Scheme, the newest single of the London quartet Escapists. While pitching the song’s chorus “I don’t know, I don’t know” higher and higher, Simon Glancy brings the main message of Pyramid Scheme home and delivers

Released Today: Adryelle - Deep Blue Water (feat. StarBoy)

Baltimore producer Adryelle finally released a new song Deep Blue Water, which moves her from dream-pop a bit more into the R&B direction. Aside from her soulful vocals, it features a great acoustic bass line and some rap. It makes me curious what she’s up to

Song Pick of the Day: Abra - Sick Girl

Abra toured with Empress Of, but unfortunately we missed her show back in September. Our Song Pick of the Day Sick Girl is indeed sick and weird and simply delicious.

Song Pick of the Day: Tsar B - Escalate

Belgian singer and producer Tsar B goes straight for the place where FKA twigs is very successful and which some call “Experimental R&B”. I’d rather call it enormously cool music, which fuses multiple genres into something very unconventional. Our Song Pick of the Day, the sensual track

Song Pick of the Day: Lucy Sunday - December Love

There’s nothing cold about December Love rather the opposite! This song by young LA artist Lucy Sunday is one hot number and the only possible chills are caused by Lucy Sunday’s beautifully strong yet smooth vocals, and the track’s modern R&B touch. Listen to December

Life Soundtrack: Jean-Michel Jarre - The Concerts in China

Recently I saw this promotional video of French electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre, which reminded me of a phase in the 80s, when I bought all his albums, which were by then already a few years old and hence cheaper. I was surprised how many iconic instrumentals he wrote,

Song Pick of the Day: Louisahhh!!! - Change

Lately I’m pretty much obsessed with Louisahhh!!!, whose EP Shadow Work is a brilliant piece of minimalist electronic music. All six tracks are so good, but here’s the most instantly palatable Change, our Song Pick of the Day. Happy Thanksgiving for those in the U.S.! There are

Song Pick of the Day: Island Science - Satellite

Island Science are from Orlando and they do dreampop, somewhat reminiscent of of Warpaint, maybe a little bit more on the electronic side. That’s all I know, but I like it a lot. Our Song Pick of the Day!

NEW ALBUM: Foals - What Went Down

With its uncompromising urgency, high tempo moving forward, pronounced bass lines and underlying menace cumulating in great suspense, What Went Down is easily among the best rock-pop songs of the year! Yet when first listening to What Went Down  the fourth studio album of The Foals, one is inclined

No Words: VHVL - lthrgy

This is the inaugural post of our “No Words” series for showcasing electronic instrumentals. Lthgry by Harlem producer VHVL starts out as a serene, dreamy soundscape which is suddenly pierced by a dissonant bassline and frantic beats. Like when you try to sleep, but a sudden important thought keeps your

Song Pick of the Day: Some Type Of Stereo - I Don't Remember

Where have all the classic rock bands gone? Is this type of sound truly passé? Well, let’s wander out West, way West to Los Angeles and collect some members along the way: a bassist from Florida, a guitarist and a drummer from North Carolina and a singer from L.

Shopping brought Joy and Modern UK Punk to Palisades

Song Pick of the Day: Mothica - No One

It’s finally here: the first track of the upcoming debut EP by Brooklyn producer/singer Mothica. I’ve been a fan for quite a while, based on the demos and collaborations she has put out so far, but it’s even more exciting to hear her first proper single.

Released Today: Badlands - Caramisou

This is the first single of Badlands, the project of electronic producer Catherina Jaunviksna – not surprisingly – from Sweden, although she has also ties to Italy and Ireland. Caramisou is a lush, etheric track, think a less icy, warmer version of iamamiwhoami’s music. Badlands is working on a full-length

Video: Cross Record - High Rise

Slightly on the creepy side is this video by Cross Record, which shows a masked Emily Cross operating a chain saw. Maybe this is what you come up with when you live on a ranch like Emily and her husband do. But the music is not country-side at all,
