New releases
No Joy – More Faithful
No Joy is a shoegaze band from Canada around singers Jasmine White-Gluz and Laura Lloyd. Their band name is not really a mission statement – there is some joy to find in their music. I will listen often to this. (Out now on Mexican Summer)
PINS – Wild Nights
PINS are a four piece indie rock band from Manchester. I liked their first album, but at first listen, this one is better. If you want to see them very angry at someone – watch the video. (Out now on Bella Union)
Jenny Hval – Apocalypse, Girl
Apocalypse, Girl is Norwegian Jenny Hval’s fifth album an it is high art all over – don’t assume that The Battle is Over is musically representative for what is going on here. The album probably takes a while to get into, but it may be worth it. (Out now on Sacred Bones)
Announcements
Laurel Halo Double EP
Brooklyn electronic musician Laurel Halo experiments with a new format: a double EP, expected in September. She hasn’t done vocals on her last few releases, but I’d like her to go back to singing. But probably she has different things in mind again.
Girls Names – Arms Around a Vision
Belfast four piece [Girls Names] with a hang to overlong songs announced their third album for October 2nd.
CocoRosie
Genre-defying sisters CocoRosie announce their sixth album for this fall. Whatever it will be, it will be interesting.
