Casii Stephan - Happy [Video]

One look at Casii Stephan’s sun-yellow press photo and I already feel a little happier. Originally from Minnesota, the singer-songwriter now calls Tulsa home. Her new single “Happy” gives that feeling somewhere to go, with buoyant energy and R&B-tinged vocals full of personality. The accompanying video presents scenarios that look considerably less cheerful, adding another layer to a song that asks what being happy actually means.

A cheeky streak runs through those doo-doos and na-na-nas, familiar pop pleasures carrying a question with no easy answer. Producer Chad Copelin gives Stephan’s soulful vocals plenty of room to shine, and the joy you hear makes the song’s uncertainty all the more appealing. You might come away still wondering what happiness means, but with a little more spring in your step.
