Some songs feel like a conversation you didn't know you needed. Vacations' "I See Myself In You" wraps bittersweet reflection in an effortlessly mellow, beautifully melodic indie-rock song that's impossible not to keep playing.

The Australian quartet returns with the second single from their upcoming album Pursuit of Anything, following the equally wonderful "Holy Grail," which we featured earlier this year. Inspired by a conversation that Campbell Burns had with his parents before flying back to New York, the song reflects on how our relationships evolve over time and the surprising ways we begin to see ourselves in those we love most.

"I was going through something personal at the time, and they were there for me in a way that felt like I was talking to my best friends, because I was. My relationship with my parents has changed so much over the course of my life and it made me pause and realise how similar we are and our experiences. I also started to wonder if one day I’ll be in their position, having a similar conversation with my child."

The song's warm nostalgia and easy-going groove make those reflections feel comforting rather than heavy. It's one of those wonderfully catchy songs that stays with you long after it ends.

Be sure to watch the video, directed by Patrick Linehan, which puts a fresh spin on a familiar idea. It was filmed in a park on Manhattan's Lower East Side—one of my favorite neighborhoods and a place I called home for many years.
