The Buoys - Welcome To My Brain
The Buoys turn mental overload into exhilarating indie rock on "Welcome To My Brain."
The Buoys immediately reminded me of Britain's Wolf Alice, thanks to their hard-hitting drums, driving bass, and unfussy vocals. The comparison doesn't last long, though. The Australian four-piece has a voice entirely its own—and as an all-female rock band, they're still part of a relatively small corner of the indie landscape.
What really drew me in is the songwriting. "Welcome To My Brain" is as compelling as it is catchy, inviting listeners inside the singer's restless mind. It's an absorbing journey, balancing vivid storytelling with an irresistible indie rock punch that lingers long after the final note.
The song arrives ahead of the band's second album, Concrete Cowboy, produced by Chris Collins (Royel Otis, Gang of Youths). Crafted from years of demos, lyrical ideas, guitar progressions, and personal reflections, the record promises a distilled version of the band's signature sound and thoughtful songwriting.
The band explains:
“We were in the studio together when the phrase came to us: too many tabs open. That became the heartbeat of the record. ‘Concrete Cowboy’ is about trying to keep pace with a world that never slows down, and what you find when you finally stop. Dreams, repressed memories, the blur between what’s real and what your mind has been quietly holding. We wanted to build a world around that feeling, one that lives in a surrealist dream state where those lines don’t just blur, they dissolve. We hope listeners find themselves inside it, so they can have a dance when it all feels a little too much.”
