Sophie Truax - I'd Still Be

Sophie Truax’s “I’d Still Be” is tender, quietly funny, and full of innocent charm — a soft acoustic surprise that keeps opening up in the loveliest way.

Sophie Truax - I'd Still Be

"I'd Still Be," the new single by Sophie Truax, completely caught me by surprise. Admittedly, it was the press photo and the song title that first made me curious enough to hit play. I was expecting something entirely different and couldn't have been happier to be wrong.

The soft, enchanting acoustic guitar immediately brought back memories of the music I grew up with before Sophie's warm, effortless vocals slipped in. Everything flows with an easy grace. Nothing is shrill, nothing is loud—just beautifully understated.

Unlike many of the acoustic guitar-driven songs from my youth, "I'd Still Be" gradually opens into a fuller production without ever losing its innocent, heartfelt charm. Before you know it, you'll be reaching for the replay button. Sophie says:

“Sometimes you feel so drawn to someone that you’d do anything to contort into the thing you think they want. Sometimes you reach out to that person when you shouldn’t, because the feeling supersedes the weight of a bad decision. And sometimes, you write a song about all of it, only for the man you wrote it about to stand you up a week later to play a card game called Bean Bohnanza. And that’s life.”

"I'd Still Be" arrives ahead of Sophie Truax's forthcoming EP, a project that continues her gift for capturing the beautifully awkward emotional moments most people would rather edit out. Beyond music, she's also an accomplished visual artist, creating handcrafted puppets that expand the same deeply personal, imaginative world found in her songs.
