Last year, Brighton indie newcomer Opal Mag caught our attention with "I Don’t Like You, but I Love You," a song that felt both sharp and disarmingly open. Now she’s building toward her upcoming EP, and with "World End," she leans into contrast in the most compelling way.

The track is bright, almost effervescent on first listen, but beneath that shimmer lies something far more cutting. Lines like "I wanna hit you where it hurts." reveal a raw honesty that refuses to smooth over discomfort. There’s tension here, wrapped in melody.

Asked about the song, Opal Mag says:

“‘World End’ is an exploration of emotional imbalance, where one person’s pain is minimised while another’s takes centre stage, revealing how that imbalance can be quietly reinforced to serve someone else’s sense of control - kicking them when they’re down”.

It’s that interplay between light and shadow that makes "World End" so gripping. Let it draw you in. With "World End," Opal Mag pairs radiant indie-pop with emotional precision. Listen to our Song Pick of the Day now:
