Northside Festival Day 2 Roundup: Grandmaster Flash // Flasher // JEFF the Brotherhood

Day 2 started with a Jameson-sponsored happy hour at Zablozki’s with good drinks and surprisingly good food. There we met members of Bent Denim, who provided a song pick last year and Lantrns, our first show of the year.
From there we went to the big event of the day: legendary DJ Grandmaster Flash was heating up the crowds at McCarren Park. For me special moment, because I saw Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five live way back in the 80s in Würzburg Germany (although, given the confusing history of the band it is not clear if he was at that show or not). He played an eclectic mix of danceable songs throughout the decades and blended them together with his trademark scratching technique. Amazing!
Next stop, Music Hall of Williamsburg, where we caught two songs of the power rock three piece Flasher.
They were followed by JEFF the Brotherhood, who basically brought the house down. With only a (heavily effected) guitar and a stripped down drum kit, they dispense such raw energy that the crowds went completely crazy.
