iowna - Somewhere Else

There’s beauty in the restless turns of “Somewhere Else,” a hypnotic invitation to get a little lost.

iowna - Somewhere Else

There’s something unsettling about “Somewhere Else,” but even in its most restless moments, hope feels within reach. Bristol-based duo iowna draw us in with female vocals, guitar, and a carpet of violin before the song shifts, becoming more urgent and, somehow, more inviting. The tension remains, but there’s a peculiar beauty in the way these elements move together, making its unruly turns highly alluring.

The duo cite Nilüfer Yanya among their influences, a connection I can hear in the song’s restless character and the way the vocals thread through its shifting textures. Written in response to the darkness around us and the feeling of being present while your mind is elsewhere, “Somewhere Else” gives that disconnection an intriguing musical shape. As the beat grows more insistent, the song’s hypnotic pull only deepens. It keeps you a little off balance, curious about where it will go next—and, in my case, ready to listen again as soon as it ends.

“Somewhere Else” will appear on their debut EP, Here it is where I am burning, due in November.
