Gloria de Oliveira - Fading Faces
Gloria de Oliveira turns a long goodbye into a dreamlike passage between memory and myth
Layers of acoustic and electronic sounds over thundering drums accompany Gloria de Oliveira’s tale of a long goodbye to a distant love. Her poetic words feel as though they have been lifted from an old storybook, carrying the song into a mythical realm. With “Fading Faces,” the Berlin-based German-Brazilian artist announces her new album, The Lying Swans.
She says about the song:
“This is not only the first single, but also the very first piece of music I wrote when I started working on the album. It was also the first song that Randall Dunn and I later recorded together in Iceland. In many ways, it’s the reason the album even exists - ‘Fading Faces’ required me to allow myself this degree of vulnerability that permeates ‘The Lying Swans’. Musically, it still follows the tradition of my previous albums to some extent, while simultaneously drawing on new modes of expression.
Gloria’s album The Lying Swans will be out on October 31 via La Double Vie/Cargo Records. Listen to our Song Pick of the Day on your favorite streaming service or watch the video below:
