Girl Next Door - Tongue Tied

Girl Next Door turns heartbreak into something almost funny in “Tongue Tied.” Sad but playful, it’s the sound of crying and laughing at the same time.

Girl Next Door - Tongue Tied

Don’t take yourself too seriously. Sarah Carton, aka Girl Next Door, turns the heartbreak of a relationship’s end into something unexpectedly light in her new song, “Tongue Tied.” The bouncy production and cheerful violins balance the sadness — because eventually, all that pain becomes just a memory.

This song is actually really sad but I think that’s why we went for a playful vibe for it. It’s the song version of when you go through the most horrific breakup and you’re so sad that it’s kind of funny. Like you’re ugly crying in your friends arms and you both start laughing at how crazy you’re being.

For the video, she tapped into her early-internet nostalgia: “I used Myspace glitter text generators for the titles, and the styling was inspired by the 00s Tumblr girl aesthetic. I love Tumblr.”
