Dolly Doops - No Means No

Born-and-bred Londoner, rising singer/songwriter, and pop-anthem creator Dolly Doops has just released the much-needed “No Means No.” The track is as vivid as you’d expect from someone with such a life-affirming, slightly tongue-in-cheek name — and I was instantly drawn to both the artist and her oeuvre. But when the word “no” enters the conversation, things turn serious. And indeed, they do — as Dolly Doops explains:

“This is an important conversation that needs to be had. Consent. The only thing No can mean, no. I wrote this to sing at the top of my lungs with my female identifying fans. It's a song for women, Women who are tired of having to walk home with keys in their knuckles, who are afraid to tell a man to leave them alone so they lie and say they have a boyfriend, who share their locations on their way home and text each other as soon as they're 'home safe'. It's a punchy  beat, we really had fun shaping the production, Adriano and I, it moves with the vulnerability of the subject but the lyrics, the lyrics are what matters.”
