Burr Island - Longest Shadow
Folk warmth, Latin-jazz guitar colors, and golden harmonies make “Longest Shadow” instantly inviting.
Burr Island have carved out a sound of their own, drawing from Americana, folk, close Simon & Garfunkel-style harmonies, and the Latin jazz guitar warmth of Strunz & Farah. On “Longest Shadow,” all of that comes together with an utterly appealing, instantly lovable glow, touched by something beautifully cinematic and ’70s.
Best friends Tom England and Śubhabhāsa released their debut album Days Dreamt in 2024, and are now preparing their second album, It Was Always, out December 4.
“Like the longest shadows at dusk that lengthen into night, this song is about the realisation of love fading away. The sadness of this long admittance to yourself is met with an opening, a dawning that you did not see before within the shadows of this ending.”
That sadness, and the light just beyond it, make “Longest Shadow” linger. Listen to “Longest Shadow,” our Song Pick of the Day.
