Back in Town

New York could not have welcomed us back more warmly yesterday, with its summer-like temperatures. It softened the transition from Lisbon’s relaxed Southern European rhythm to NYC’s high-energy vibe. We’re happy to be back after a week that felt both restorative and inspiring.

Below are our first photos from Lisbon, along with our seven most recent Song Picks of the Day and a glimpse back into glamglare’s history. Next week, we return to full programming.

This Week in glamglare history

Leitbur, emzae, and Tan Cologne

1 Year Ago: Tan Cologne - Cloud of Mirrors

“Cloud of Mirrors” is the hypnotic first single from the New Mexico guitar dream-pop duo Tan Cologne’s 2025 album Unknown Beyond.

5 Years Ago: emzae - Strip Lights

The UK singer and producer emzae makes upbeat, retro-tinged music. “Strip Lights” from her 2023 album All Those Things I Thought I Know is about a “is about a not so good” night out.

10 Years Ago: Leitbur - I Need You

The duo Leitbur released a single album, Antique Travelers, in 2016, featuring classic L.A.-style upbeat synth-pop. “I Need You” is a love song built around the line “You’re the best person I know, I need you by my side, I need you.”

Lisbon, One Pastry at a Time

The first set of photos from our Lisbon trip has to be about pastries — something the Portuguese elevate with both sweet and savory fillings. The most famous, of course, are the Pastéis de Nata, which, as the story goes, came about when Jerónimos monks found themselves with an excess of egg yolks from starching their white robes and turned them into the now-iconic custard-filled pastries.

Then there are the many empanada-style variations we kept coming back to: at Quiosque de Santa Catarina (photo 3) and at Quiosque Lisboa with a codfish (bacalhau) filling in the Parque Infantil da Praça das Flores (photo 7). Our first Pastéis de Nata came early, at 8 in the morning at the airport (photo 1), and the last ones were courtesy of the Meliá Hotel in the evening before our 10 am Delta flight home (photo 9).

Our favorites? The ones from Castro — so good that we didn’t even stop to take a photo.
