Abbie Ozard - Baby I'm Your Star

Confidence isn’t always something you have—it can also be something you practice.

Being dependent on validation from others is an uncomfortable state. No wonder the declaration “Baby I’m Your Star” comes wrapped in dark, Cure-esque indie rock rather than triumphant pop. But the Manchester-based singer-songwriter Abbie Ozard also reminds us not to give up chasing our dreams, even if we start with an audience of one.

Abbie explains:

Baby I’m Your Star’ is about trying to convince yourself you’re as confident as you want everyone else to think you are. On the surface it’s cocky and playful, but underneath it comes from wanting to be heard and believed in. The song plays with the tension between ego and self-doubt, and the idea that sometimes confidence is something you have to perform before you fully believe it. It feels like a defiant moment for me, but there’s still plenty of vulnerability hiding underneath.

“Baby I’m Your Star” is the title song of Abbie Ozard’s new EP, out on August 21. Listen to our Song Pick of the day on your favorite streaming service or watch the video below. - Get one carefully chosen song like this in your inbox every day.
