Between heartbreak and moving on, Wynd lets hope flicker gently on “Hopeful.”

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Copenhagen with the preview of an album, a song, and a video that touched me deeply. I couldn’t wait to finally feature it. And while I may have missed the exact release date, my feelings around this music are still the same. From Wynd’s new album The Shores, we chose “Hopeful,” and isn’t that a feeling we can all relate to and long for?

Morten Larsen, aka Wynd, says:

“I wrote a song like ‘Hopeful’ to explore the dilemma that arises when feelings for someone continue to linger long after a relationship has ended: Do you hold on to the hope of finding your way back to each other, or do you move on, as the memories slowly transform into a burn mark from the time when the love was burning?”

Built from a stripped-back, acoustic world of guitar, harmonica, mandolin, lap steel, and violin, “Hopeful” carries its melancholy with remarkable lightness. The words look back at love’s afterimage, while the music keeps moving forward, gently but surely, as if hope itself were still walking beside it.
