Dutch–British singer, songwriter, and composer Tessa Rose Jackson gives us another taste of her upcoming album with her exquisite new single “By Morning.” What makes an artist write a song like this — and why these words, this moment? I always find that endlessly fascinating, and it’s especially easy to connect with Tessa Rose Jackson’s own reflection:
“I wrote this song at exactly one of those moments during an argument with my partner. Hot and flustered I fled upstairs to let off some steam, reached for a guitar, and ‘By Morning’ rolled out. When I came downstairs again with my tail between my legs, I played him this song. He forgave me. We all get caught up in this messy business sometimes.. and it’s so often something so trivial that, by morning, you can barely imagine ever having cared so much.”
The accompanying video came together just as spontaneously as the song itself. Filmed during the album recordings in France by photographer and filmmaker Bibian Bingen, it stars Jackson — or rather, Jackson’s hands:
“We were messing about, making shadow puppets on the wall as the song played and Bibian instinctively grabbed her camera. A playful little performance of creatures in the light, as impromptu as the way the song was born.”
Her third studio album, The Lighthouse, arrives in January 2026 — a haunting yet life-affirming reflection on ancestry and belonging.
