Two weeks ago, while browsing clothes in a Downtown store, I was cycling through new releases when “Body Down” stopped me in my tracks. I played it again. And again. And again — easily a dozen times — before I even looked up who was behind the song that had already sunk its hooks in.

Stanley Simmons didn’t ring a bell at first. A quick glance at the press release told me this was a project by two childhood friends, Evan Stanley and Nick Simmons, finally making music together under their shared last names. Only later did the full picture click into place — yes, those last names. The sons of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons (by now you know: KISS) stepping out together with an effortlessly catchy debut.

“Body Down” leans into a warm, folk-rock-inflected sound that nods to the band America and Fleetwood Mac, while a fantastic guitar solo subtly tips its hat to rock lineage — without ever leaning on it. This is music that stands on its own: confident, melodic, and emotionally grounded.

Nick Simmons explains:

Making things is medicine, and I think it always has been. Evan and I are both big fans of roots and Americana music for that reason, and we like to reference it whenever possible. ‘Body Down’ contains a deliberate nod to the traditional blues line ‘ain’t no grave can hold my body down’ — carried through generations from Claude Ely to Bozie Sturdivant to Johnny Cash to Led Zeppelin to Hozier. While it originally referenced the rapture, we use it as an expression of resilience — that something meaningful can endure through solidarity, even when the world feels hostile or uncertain.
