Selkie - Heartspeak

“Heartspeak” feels like drifting through a dream: gentle synths, airy harmonies, and close vocals that pull you into an unreal, luminous world. The Scottish-born, Japan-based singer and producer Selkie wrote the song from two vivid, almost otherworldly real-life moments.

Selkie recalls:

I wrote Heartspeak from two nights that left a stain on me: Out at sea after dark, I floated well off the coast, above I-don’t-know-what, and every small movement lit the water blue with bioluminescent plankton. It was so surreal and beautiful that there wasn’t room for fear, only awe.

She adds:

The other night came after a full day of mountain hiking. I’d planned to sleep at a shelter halfway, but it was full, so I had to descend in the absolute black of night, knowing that bears move in that forest. I was exhausted and could only keep walking forward blindly, my heart thumping with every footstep.
