With “Honey,” the Canadian singer-songwriter Ora Cogan introduces the titular character of her new album. The hard-hearted woman moves through the world behind armor — whether by choice or necessity remains an open question. She does not appear as a villain in “Honey,” but as someone who has learned how to protect herself.

The video, directed by Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez, shows a cast of curious characters finding connection and release in a countryside bar. It is the perfect backdrop for her blend of rock, folk, and country — and yes, it’s hard not to smile at one familiar cinematic nod along the way.
