As a teenager in the late '70s and early '80s, I vividly remember Anita Ward’s Ring My Bell. The track was fierce, glorious, and a beautifully persistent earworm - I still love it today. So naturally, when one of my current favorite bands, Night Moves, released a new single with the same title, I immediately thought: cover! But no, the Minneapolis-based four-piece simply borrowed the title, and why not? Their “Ring My Bell” is steeped in nostalgia, but it’s far from Anita Ward’s disco classic.

Lead singer John Pelant says of the track:

“"Ring My Bell" has been a song I've kicked around for the past 10 years and never really figured out until the summer of '23. I always knew it would arrive, but it would arrive on its own time. I never forced this song. What's most magical is it all came together when I discovered a bell key patch on a 90's Roland through an echo pedal. It was at this point I knew I couldn't change the lyrics and this song's fate was sealed.”
