New Constellations - I'm Waiting Now [Video]

A song with big feelings needs to trust its singer, and “I’m Waiting Now” places its faith entirely in Harlee Case. Against sparse, uncluttered rock production, her expressive vocals carry a plea, a confession, and perhaps an accusation too. The lyrics may not be especially hopeful, but they do not give up either. Strong and vulnerable at once, Case is still waiting.

The song swells and swells, growing ever larger while the guitar maintains its steady strum, offering something reassuring beneath the emotional turmoil. After the final surge, everything recedes into a beautifully soft outro.

New Constellations, the Portland-based duo of Case and Josh Smith, first appeared as a Song Pick with “Secret Safe” last December. Released on their debut album, It Comes In Waves, in May, “I’m Waiting Now” now comes with a striking new video. Moving between shadowy interiors, wood-paneled hallways, and the edge of a dark, glassy lake, it leans fully into the song’s restless, dreamlike atmosphere. The camera trusts its protagonist as completely as the song trusts its singer: Case appears in every frame, and she is spectacular.
