The new single by Tucson, AZ–based shoegaze/dream-pop project Mute Swan opens in a rush of sparkle — all shimmer, lift, and instant feel-good glow. While “Cocteau Swan" (ft. Citrus Clouds) surely wasn’t written with the holiday season in mind, yet its celebratory warmth and light-filled momentum make it feel perfectly at home right now.

Digging into the story behind the track adds depth: “Cocteau Swan,” featuring Stacie Huttleson of fellow Arizona shoegaze band Citrus Clouds, marks a new era for Mute Swan following the tragic passing of founding member and guitarist Thomas Sloane. The song swells and blooms with dense guitar and electronic textures, carried by the intertwined vocals of Mike Barnett and Huttleson — airy, affectionate, and full of motion.

Barnett shares:

"This song is an homage to one of our favorite bands, Cocteau Twins. We were very lucky to have our friend Stacie Huttleston from Citrus Clouds sing the backing vocal part, which we recorded at their practice space in Phoenix."

Mute Swan are Mike Barnett (guitar/vocals), Prabjit Virdee (bass/vocals), the late Thomas Sloane (guitar), and Gilbert Flores (drums).
