MERCE's new single sits right on the edge between falling apart and holding it together
“My Guy” is a mantra, telling yourself that nothing is lost and that life goes on in a better way. The restrained music, with piano, percussion, and subtle electronics, teeters on the brink of sadness and relief – there is still some way to go before this relationship is in the past.
Mercedes explains:
My Guy is less about a guy I didn’t align with and more about reassuring myself that there’s no need to cry. Who or what is meant for me will not pass me by. The music is atmospheric and moody with a march-like quality that feels like the path I’m on, the twisting, winding road to my highest good.
MERCE is the new solo project of Mercedes Martinez, who has been active in the Soul and R&B scene since the 1990s. “My Guy” is the first single from her upcoming album ALIVE.
