"I'm flying home in a month, I kinda wish I could stay," sings Malu Pierini in her newest single, "Souvenir," and I think we can all relate to that sentiment. However, in Malu's case, this is even more pronounced, with her French (Corsica) roots and Danish upbringing. Musically, "Souvenir" uses a bossa nova rhythm with warm accents like a soft piano paired with sweeping violins, the perfect backdrop for Malu's gorgeous vocals. Lyrically, Malu explores the bittersweet beauty of belonging to multiple places simultaneously. I especially love the framing of the song, its beginning and end, and, of course, all that's in between.

Malu says about "Souvenir:"

“I’ve spent the past year digging into the core of my own story, making my music more personal. I used to be unconsciously guided by others’ expectations, but with these new songs, I’m allowing myself to write about things I’d normally keep to myself - and for the first time, my roots and my full name have a place in my music. Symbolically, ‘Souvenir’ is about opening a new chapter, traveling out into the world alone — and discovering that you don’t miss your partner and your old life back home as much as you know you should."
