From there I went down this rabbit hole, comparing nostalgia and the discomfort of change. Like, if everything stayed exactly the way you remembered it—all the stuff that made you feel comfortable when you were a kid - and then you come back as an adult, with an adult perspective, suddenly all those same things that used to bring you peace just feel weird and off. Like they don’t fit quite right anymore, even though you want them to. And then everything familiar suddenly feels unfamiliar, in this uncanny kind of way.
