Lauren Minear - Perfect Girl

“Perfect Girl” turns cool control into a quiet provocation, as Lauren Minear dismantles the myth of perfection with clarity and intent.

With “Perfect Girl,” Lauren Minear releases her first single of the year and keeps moving forward with the bold, thoughtful streak she set in motion with last year’s album Boxing Day. Sonically restrained and deliberately “robotic,” the track leans into repetition and control to underline just how absurd the idea of perfection really is.

The New York-based singer/songwriter says:

“This song is unlike anything else I’ve ever written. It plays with themes of body privilege and power to illustrate how the construct of perfection hurts and disconnects everyone (including men).”

She explains further:

“I don’t deliberately write about the female experience, but I am a woman, a mother, and a psychotherapist trained in a feminist relational approach – it comes very naturally to me.”

Listen to “Perfect Girl,” our Song Pick of the Day — a sharp, unsettling, and quietly powerful reminder that perfection is a trap, not a goal.
