Kid Sistr - American Teenage Prophecy [Video]
“American Teenage Prophecy” lets Kid Sistr imagine queer love stories with the ease and sweetness they deserve.
There’s something disarmingly gentle about Kid Sistr’s new single “American Teenage Prophecy.” The song unfolds in a quiet, steady flow, carried by acoustic guitar and close harmonies that feel intimate rather than declarative.
Comprised of Sabel Englert (guitar/vocals), Sara Keden (bass/vocals), and Rebecca Webster (drums), the trio often centers their music around girlhood, angst, and infatuation — here, with a softness that lets the sentiment breathe.
The band says about the track:
"‘American Teenage Prophecy’ feels like a flower blooming and inside it, there is an acoustic guitar and three gay girls. It was inspired by a late-night viewing of the 2010 biopic The Runaways, and asks: what if Joan Jett and Cherie Currie got married and started a family? The song is meant to imagine a world where queer romance flourishes in all the ways straight romance is allowed to: first kisses in treehouses, passing notes in study hall, high school prom, dorm room romance, in every decade, every state, every country. What are the love stories we could have if there was nothing standing in our way?”
It’s a tender vision, grounded in everyday images and quiet hope. Listen to "American Teenage Prophecy," our Song Pick of the Day:
