“Keep moving in the right direction”

It is a widespread consensus that the music industry is broken, maybe beyond repair. However, that has not deterred artists from creating music more than ever, as it is both fun and rewarding, regardless of how many people listen or how much money is made. For that reason, I loved the positive message that UK singer-songwriter Bar Pandora shared in an Instagram post where she expresses her gratitude for being able to record and release her debut EP in 2023. She says:

Three years on, it serves to remind me that you don’t have to know where you’re going – if you keep moving in the right direction, and follow the thing that makes you feel most creative and free 🎡, you will get where you need to go.

We are big fans of her, having featured her multiple times as Song Pick of the Day and also did a Q&A.

Since last week, I’ve moved on within the letter “B” in my Apple Music library, from Bat For Lashes to Bar Pandora (coincidentally) and then on to Björk. Also coincidentally, Santiago Felipe wrote a retrospective about her ten albums, spanning from 1993 to 2022, in Treble Magazine. I did not listen to all her albums, but I did revisit 1993’s Debut, which is still my favorite. It may not be the most sophisticated musically, but at that time, the record was the first time I heard a singer-songwriter incorporating electronic sounds and dance music beats into pop songs.

Then, in the 2000s, Björk started to transform herself into a living piece of abstract art. She never became boring, but her music evolved into more of an intellectual challenge than pop music. Santiago did a great job outlining Björk’s trajectory for the last 30 years, and I fully agree with his ratings.

Here‘s another coincidence: Bat For Lashes just gave the iconic video for „What‘s a Girl to Do?” the HD remaster treatment. Enjoy here:

Nine Photos of a East River Ferry Ride

Friday night, while winding down by the East River and watching boats pass by, I felt an urge to be out on the water too. Since we don’t own—or know how to operate—a sailboat, we happily took advantage of the NYC Ferry and hopped on at Pier 11, just around the corner, for a ride to North Williamsburg. Enjoy these nine summer-tinged photos from that little trip.
