With "Loco Driver," Welsh-Indonesian artist Hilang Child (the moniker of Ed Riman) announces his new album Gratitude Journal, out on October 24 via his own label LOVELY PEOPLE. The new album comes on the heels of this 2024 EP 5, 6, Sidekick, which already had us completely fascinated.

The video for "Loco Driver," directed and shot by Hilang Child together with Stefan Abingdon, pairs serene, intimate visuals with the song’s dreamy atmosphere. Centered entirely on Ed Riman, it feels like a three-minute meditation, the gentle drumming grounding the listener in the moment.

Written in a cabin in Eryri, Wales, "Loco Driver" is a song that finds strength in vulnerability. With swelling instrumentation and big, heartfelt choruses, it captures the grounding comfort of being around someone who makes you feel seen and celebrated. As Ed Riman explains:

“It’s about finding someone who makes you feel completely secure in who you are, where you can be yourself without ever feeling belittled. That feeling of safety and celebration is what inspired the song.”

Looking ahead to the full album, I can’t wait to hear the rest. What Ed shares about it resonates deeply with me:

“I wanted the album to be an uplifting collection, even in its more introspective moments. Every track is either about something I’m grateful for, something that brings joy, or finding ways to live with challenges without fear.”
