Deerest - WANT

With her solo project Deerest, Dharma Ramirez continues to explore new territory, and “WANT” stands out for its emotional clarity and quiet intensity.

Deerest - WANT

With her new solo project, Deerest, singer/songwriter Dharma Ramirez steps into new territory. Her latest single, the unflinching "WANT," offers an early glimpse of what that shift sounds like — raw, honest, and hard to shake.

We’ve followed Dharma’s musical projects since she was a young teenager, so it’s especially exciting to see her embark on something new and deeply personal. Curious to learn more, we reached out via email and asked her about "WANT," and she generously shared the following:

"This song explores a compulsive relationship with dopamine release. Looking for pleasure or excitement in impulsive decision-making and cheap thrills. The lyrics 'dopamine you're such a mean, mean friend but I getcha getcha when I can. You and me, we always make amends...' sum it up pretty well."

She adds further context when talking about the song’s closing lines:

"The ending in which I repeat 'one must learn to sit with pain or pain will learn to sit with you' touches on the idea that sources of quick dopamine release don't address underlying pain; they merely distract while it makes a home inside your body."

Quietly confronting and emotionally precise, "WANT" lingers not because it seeks resolution, but because it refuses to look away.
