Claire Martine - Better safe than sorry

It’s not that we can’t speak — it’s that we don’t always say what matters.

Claire Martine - Better safe than sorry

There’s a soft pull to Claire Martine’s “Better safe than sorry” — dreamy at first, almost weightless, until something a little rougher begins to surface underneath. It’s that gentle shift that makes the song linger, opening up a space where sweetness and unease quietly coexist. And it taps into something quietly familiar: even in a world where communication is always at our fingertips, saying what truly matters can still feel just out of reach.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and now based in New York City, Claire Martine brings a thoughtful, hands-on approach to her music. With a background in violin, she shapes her alternative sound with a sense of texture and restraint, letting emotion unfold rather than forcing it forward.

When we asked Claire about the inspiration behind the song, she told us:

"I have always been inspired by The Cranberries and The Sundays, so I wanted to evoke that moody, grungy sound when we were recording this song. I wrote 'Better safe than sorry' about coming to a turning point in a relationship but getting overwhelmed about expressing any true feelings. It's about feeling misunderstood, getting caught up in miscommunication, and the regret that comes with being so avoidant."
