Band of Revelations - Wishing Well
Two voices meet in a duet of heartbreak and hope that won’t let go.
I’ve followed Johnny Lloyd through several projects, and his new one, Band of Revelations, has already brought us “After Dark.” Now “Wishing Well” has grabbed me from the first listen and refuses to let go. That’s despite the banjo, an instrument I have a complicated relationship with.
What gets me is the duet with Rosie Oddie. Their voices sound so appealing together: close, candid, and full of feeling. When their voices meet in harmony, the song opens up, and its chorus lingers long after the music ends. Mystery Jets’ Blaine Harrison and Kapil Trivedi contribute keys and drums, respectively.
Johnny Lloyd says:
“‘Wishing Well’ is a love song and a confession of faults, of lost love and broken promises. It is a realisation that, from the ruins of something gone so wrong, the best relationships are often formed.”
There’s hurt in “Wishing Well,” but also the possibility of finding something good in its aftermath.
