Are you familiar with Icelandic singer/songwriter Ásgeir, known for his enchanting vocals and thoughtful musical productions? His new single “Ferris Wheel” marks a turning point — not musically, but lyrically. For the first time, Ásgeir has written his pensive lyrics directly in English. In the past, he would pen them in Icelandic and have them translated by the likes of John Grant. (A big thank you for singing in English in the first place!) Now, Ásgeir feels comfortable enough to go all the way. Bravo!
The new approach mirrors the sentiment of “Ferris Wheel,” which contemplates a slower pace of life — one spent by the sea. With this song, Ásgeir also announces his upcoming album Julia, out February 13, 2026, via One Little Independent Records. Asked about “Ferris Wheel,” Ásgeir shares:
“It’s a song about wanting to change things up. Make your dreams come true. Wanting to move to a place by the water, doing the things we’ve been putting on hold. I feel like I haven’t been allowing myself to dream about the future for a long time, just been stuck in the same old ways. So it’s good to be able to dream again.”
