# Tusks - How Can I Be the Same

The London singer, songwriter, and producer Emily Underhill, aka [**Tusks**](https://glamglare.com/artist/tusks?ref=glamglare.com), visited the [Townshend Studio](https://www.uwl.ac.uk/study/study-facilities/the-townshend-studio/synthesisers?ref=glamglare.com) at the University of West London and drew inspiration from vintage synthesizers for her new album [*Do I See You There?*](https://glamglare.com/album/tusks-do-i-see-you-there?ref=glamglare.com). The first single, “How Can I Be The Same,” gives us a sense of the direction those old machines lead her: raw, heavy sounds paired with sophisticated contemporary production.

While the single responds to an experience of sexism Emily encountered while making the album, the record as a whole deals with grief. She explains:

> Pretty much all of this album is influenced by me dealing with my friend's death. Tim was my guitarist when I started Tusks and we gigged and toured together a lot then stayed good friends after, but he sadly died of pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago. This album is about me dealing with that grief in the expected and unexpected ways it manifested for me.
