# Q&A with I Am Snow Angel, anticipating her new EP

[**I Am Snow Angel**](http://iamsnowangel.com/?ref=glamglare.com) is the solo project of New York artist Julie Kathryn. Her brand of electronic music is airy and effortless and her vocals enter your mind like a whisper in a dream. On stage she performs [alone](https://youtu.be/QDnAspVHkXs?ref=glamglare.com) and you can see this live at [Mercury Lounge](http://www.mercuryloungenyc.com/?ref=glamglare.com) Wednesday, when she celebrates the release of her new EP “Desert”, out on May 20.

We are thrilled that I Am Snow Angel found the time to provide us with answers to our questions in our *Offstage* series:

***What was the last song that got stuck in your head?***

A bunch of tracks from Beyonce’s new album. Especially “Hold Up” and “Sorry.”

***Do you have a “go-to song” from your childhood, one you always enjoy hearing again?***

Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.” I actually covered that one on my album “Crocodile.” I also love “Never Tear Us Apart” by INXS.

***What was the first album you have ever bought? And on which medium: digital, vinyl, CD or cassette tape?***

I bought Pearl Jam’s “Ten” on cd.

***Is there a song you’d like to cover?***

I’d like to re-work the Nine Inch Nails track “A Warm Place” in my own way. I feel spiritually connected to that song and I’d like to see what would come out.

***What’s your songwriting process like? What comes first, melody or lyrics?***

It changes from song to song. Sometimes a song shows up in my awareness, fully formed. Other times, I have a single element, like a guitar riff or vocal hook, and I build the song around it. Sometimes I create an entire instrumental track in Ableton, and then I write the vocal melody and lyrics last.

***Playing live, what has been your favorite venue so far? And why?***

Mercury Lounge has been my favorite so far. It’s a great room and can handle the bass heavy elements of my set. I’m playing there again for my “Desert” EP release party on May 18 and I can’t wait!

***If you could choose to live in a decade (music, style, etc.) which one would it be?***

At this moment, I am nostalgic for the 90s. But in all reality, as a musician I like living in this decade, where I have the technology to produce and engineer my own music and craft my vision from start to finish.
